The No-Resolution Revolution

This year let’s make a change. Let’s say no to New Year’s Resolutions. Let’s be honest with ourselves – the vast majority of people never manage to stick to a New Year’s Resolution leading to feelings of failure, guilt and disappointment.

Instead, let’s aim for feelings of success, clear mind, and achievement.
How can we do this? Rather than setting New Year’s Resolution, set yourself an end of 2022 target.

“If you aim for nothing, you achieve nothing”

Imagine shooting an arrow. If you have no target, you will never know if your arrow is going in the right direction, if it’s too high, too low, or completely off-course. By having a target, although you might not hit it, each time you shoot the arrow you will be consciously making adjustments to get closer.

In the same way setting yourself one or two targets for the end of the year, keeping an eye on the target, and measuring how close you are to the target regularly, will mean that eventually you will hit the target, and at worse be very close to it, having learned a great deal of what you need to do.

Don’t wait for 2022, act now.

1. Think of the most important aspects of your life – family, friends, health, relationships, work, spiritualality, finances, personal development etc.

2. Choose the one, two or three areas where you would like to make a change.

3. Come up with a measurable target, for example spending at least 1 hour reading per day by the end of 2022.

4. Break down what you need to do, change, learn, or get help with to achieve that target.

5. Act now – put those actions in place. Start super small, remembering marginal gains will add up over time.

6. Measure yourself regularly, fine tuning and making adjustments to allow you to get closer to hitting your target.

Remember, if you don’t hit your target you will still have achieved something – if you were aiming to read for an hour a day but only got to 30 minutes per day, that is still 30 minutes more than before – which is a success in itself.
