Vitamins Series: Part #2 – Vitamin A

by | May 12, 2022 | Blog, Resources

We’re always telling you to eat your vegetables and get your vitamins, but we don’t always tell you why. Today, we’re going to give you the lowdown on one of our favourite nutrients: Vitamin A!

What is Vitamin A?

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin needed for good vision and healthy skin, bones, teeth, immune system function, reproduction and growth.

It can be found in many foods including leafy greens like spinach and kale, fruits like oranges and melon (here’s a fun fact: pumpkins are also a source of vitamin A!), and animal products like meat or eggs.

What happens if you don’t get enough of it?

Vitamin A deficiency can cause dry eyes, night blindness, dry skin, fertility problems, and possible increased risk of respiratory infections.

How do I get more Vitamin A?

There are many ways you can increase your intake of Vitamin A—try adding spinach or kale into your smoothies! Cheese, eggs and oily fish are also a great source, along with foods that are a good source of beta-carotene such as yellow fruits like mango and apricots.
