Vitamins Series: Part #4 – Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an essential part of any diet. It’s a vitamin we can’t synthesize on our own, so we need to get it from food, drink, and supplements. It helps us turn the food we eat into energy, maintains our skin, bones, and tissues, aids in iron absorption—the list goes on!

Many people don’t know that the symptoms of vitamin C deficiency are very similar to other conditions and ailments. If you’re experiencing weakness, muscle aches and pains, bleeding gums or slow healing wounds, it’s possible that you aren’t getting enough vitamin C.

It’s easy to add more vitamin C to your diet. Try adding these foods to your meals:

– citrus fruits: oranges, lemons, grapefruit

– berries: strawberries and blueberries

– other fruits: kiwi fruit and mangoes

– vegetables: bell peppers, kale, spinach

If you want to make sure you’re getting enough vitamin C but are having trouble keeping track of your intake, try taking a supplement each day – but speak to a doctor first.
