Vitamins Series: Part #5 – Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a nutrient that helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus. It’s also necessary for healthy bones, muscles, heart, kidneys, brain, and immune system.

Your body makes vitamin D when you’re exposed to the sun. You can also get it from some foods like milk and fish.

You need to have enough vitamin D in your body to keep your bones strong and prevent diseases like osteoporosis, high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disorders (like psoriasis), multiple sclerosis (MS), depression and other mental health disorders.

You can get more vitamin D by spending time in the sun, eating foods that contain it (such as fatty fish), or taking supplements if you don’t get enough through your diet or sunlight exposure.
