Diabetes Awareness

by | May 29, 2024 | Blog, Resources

Decades-long research has proven that early treatment of type 2 diabetes can reduce deaths by 10%.
The UK Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS), a study spanning over four decades, has shown that early control of blood glucose with insulin and medication significantly reduces the risk of death and complications such as heart attacks, vision loss, and kidney failure.

These findings are timely, as a recent Government report revealed that approximately 1 million Brits may have undiagnosed diabetes, with at least 5.1 million individuals being pre-diabetic.

The UKPDS trial, one of the longest of its kind, began in 1977 and underscores the critical importance of early diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes. Shockingly, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates that 50% of diabetes cases in individuals under 44 are likely undiagnosed. Additionally, about 30% of those with type 2 diabetes and millions of pre-diabetics remain unaware of their condition.

Both diabetes and pre-diabetes can be detected with a simple finger-prick blood test. At Healthality, we are committed to identifying undiagnosed cases of diabetes and pre-diabetes with our finger-prick HbA1c Diabetes – Diagnosis and Monitoring test, which is considered the gold standard in regular testing.

This test is now available at a competitive price for our patients. For more information or to schedule a test, please contact our Customer Service team at 01494 623 053.
